The body will be placed in the church at 11:00am.
Public viewing will be Friday, 9:00am-8:00pm.
Rev. J.D. Key, Sr. was born to Annie Smith and Robert Key on May 18, 1920 in Lawrence County Alabama.
He departed this life at his son’s residence in Montgomery, Alabama on February 28, 2012.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Jackson Chapel CME Church, Courtland, Alabama and lastly Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he remained faithful spiritually and financially.
Rev. Key was united in marriage to the late Mamie A. Jenkins. To this union eleven children were born; threepreceded him in death: Charity, James, and Maverick McKinley, his wife, Mattie McClain Key.
He was a World War II Veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He worked at TVA in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for many years until he retired.
Rev. Key was a very quiet, loving, and kind person to everyone who knew him. He was always full of laughter and enjoyed life to the fullest. He always let everyone know that he knew the Lord everywhere he went. He really loved to praise God.
Rev. J.D. Key, Sr. lived the past six years with his son, Larry Key and daughter-in-law, Bettye. He lived a happyand blessed life. He was under WatchCare at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active member of Will Cook Community Center Senior Bible Study Group taught by Larry and Bettye. He also had a host of friends in Montgomery, Alabama. He will be truly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory: six sons: J.D. Key, Jr (Celestine), Courtland, AL; Phillips (Annie), Brooklyn, NY; Carl (Audie), Birmingham, AL; Larry (Bettye), Montgomery, AL; Jerome (Felecia), Decatur, AL; and Mack (Ramona), Decatur, AL. Two daughters: Elestine Royal (Earnest), Decatur, AL; Vornesteen Ricks (Clark), Leighton, AL. One sister: Florine Jones (Stephen), Hillsboro, AL; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
